Our prices include VAT, postage and packing to mainland UK addresses, so the price you see is the price you pay. And if you are abroad we only charge you the additional postage and packing to your part of the world "at cost". Also check out our forum for discount voucher codes for registered users. We regularly see Ebay users paying higher prices than ours for new Scalextric items, once you factor in the Ebay seller's P&P costs.
About us

We are an authorised Scalextric stockist, associated with modelmotorracing.com based in Cheddar, Somerset. Here you will find everything you need to create your own Scalextric Sport Digital race track - along with standard analogue cars and equipment, and the digital chips to convert analogue cars. Plus we also sell the smaller non-digital "Micro" starter sets for kids ages 4 and up.

SSD is just like regular Scalextric, but there are now special extra lane-change sections where cars can swap lanes and overtake each other thanks to advances in microcircuitry. Otherwise the track is exactly the same as regular "Sport" Scalextric track supplied in analogue sets, but now, instead of racing just two cars, you can race up to 6 at once on a two (or more) lane track. Your old cars can be upgraded too. See the "DIGITAL SLOT CAR" section of the margin for more details of what you can do with Digital.

Do you find this site useful? Are you looking for something that's not in stock? If you would like to send feedback about the site or ask about availability please contact us. You can also ask questions and search for information in our discussion forum where, if you are in the Somerset/Bristol area, you can also find out more about our digital racing club.

To find out about new stock arrivals, remember to set up alerts for changes to any page of this site via the "Watch This Page" button in the margin.

Troubleshooting guide
If you are experiencing a problem with your SSD circuit, CLICK HERE to view our PDF troubleshooting guide; work through the guide before calling for help as most issues are covered in there. It contains lots of useful ideas to help you track down, step by step, the possible cause of a problem, based on our many years' experience of the system. The microchips and digital wizardry mean there some new things you can try to get your cars running sweetly. Then if you are still struggling why not ask a question in our forum.
Troubleshooting guide
Suitable ages
We are often asked about suitable ages for digital racing. There's no upper limit! But in our experience we find that some younger kids, left to their own devices, just want to "gun it" and have spectacular crashes - and we see bad Scalextric drivers all the time! To do it well requires good car control, quick thinking, and tactical awareness. Kids who are not ready for it will break the cars very quickly. If you are keen for your child to start slot racing, up to about 7 years, most will be fine with a Micro set, moving up to a basic analogue set. Once they can drive something simpler, perhaps upgrade with a Digital Conversion Set and build from there.
Digitally re-mastered carsDigitally re-mastered cars
A term we have applied to standard analogue cars that we have chipped ourselves for digital operation, and ready to race. We have recently added some new cars to this section. Usually brand new cars, sometimes second-hand, and a change from the usual factory-chipped cars. Add something different to your racing stable - find them here. Don't forget we can also chip your own cars for you too.
Racing with the NSCC
As well as running our own club and public circuits, we are also involved with the National Scalextric Collectors Club which promotes the hobby both in the UK and around the world. Members receive a monthly journal, have access to limited edition club cars, and have also been invited to Hornby/NSCC weekend events such as the 2008 one pictured here. If you are interested in learning more about slot car racing and maybe joining the club, head over to the NSCC web site.

Thanks to our friends at XPB we are adding an extra dimension to the site with some motor sport pictures throughout, to illustrate some real-life examples of the cars you might be driving round your Scalextric track this year! You will find photos of the full-size cars that the Scalextric models represent, and general shots from recent motorsport events too.
"I had a Scalextric when I was young...
...but the cars always kept coming off the track, and the track kept coming apart!"

This is a statement we have heard many, many times over the years we have been running this service. When we run public events, it's often heard made by 40+ men who are worried that their inability to drive a Scalextric when they were in their teens will resurface in front of their wives and children!

Take it from us - if you remember having the sort of Scalextric cars and track shown in this photo, the cars of today are much easier to drive, if you want them to be. (Some afficionados actually still prefer a no-grip magnet-free environment but that's another discussion entirely).

Many of our customers aren't aware that these old cars did not have traction magnets in the base, so did not stay on the track too well.
These magnets were only introduced from the 1980s onwards, and the modern cars hence have much better roadholding. But the cars do still come off the track, and that is precisely the object of the game. You have to find and remember the limit of your car on every corner of every lap, without crashing, better than the other guys. Also the track of today, whilst still compatible with the old stuff, has a much a stronger interlocking system, giving solid electrical connectivity. Modern tyres and plastics provide better handling and glorious detail on the cars, and there are many robust models now available that will survive serious racing accidents without losing wings and other body parts.

In short, Scalextric has come a long way in the past decade or two, and although still essentially the same concept, you should find it a much more enjoyable experience and the ability to change lanes to overtake, which you now have with digital, is the icing on the cake; model motor racing the way it always should have been. Sorry it took so long!
