Scalextric Chip fitting for your old/existing cars

  Ref: FITTING-OLD

£18.95 If you have a working analogue Scalextric brand car you would like chipped, buy this item and send us an email detailing the car you are sending us to be chipped (you can also tell us in the checkout "other information" panel). No need to say which chip, the correct one for your car will be used. The car you send for this service has to be a "regular" 1/32 scale Hornby Scalextric or Start brand *racing* car made from about the 1970s onwards - no Batmobiles, Police Cars, Challengers, for example. Also no Historic F1s like Vanwalls, Maseratis, Ferrari 312s, McLaren M23s, etc. and no tiny vehicles like Caterhams, classic Minis, karts, Moto GP bikes, horses, all of which require bodywork modifications; no open-underside cars (they must have an underpan to fix the chip to); and no "vintage" Tri-ang or Minimodels cars (see the "tricky" fitting service for some of the more complex car types).

Scalextric 4WD models or cars with motors in the middle or at the front of the car are usually not a problem, but we will let you know if it's OK to send. Allow about 7 days for completion and return. Pre-order using button below.

If for any reason your car cannot be chipped we will let you know before work commences and your money will be refunded. We can't chip a car using a chip that you've already "had a go" with unsuccessfully, as we have no means of testing the chip is good without doing most of the chipping work anyway. It's best that we use a pristine one from the packet.

As an alternative to ordering via this on-line service, you can simply send us your car(s) for chipping together with a UK postal order payable to Cheddar Slot Car for the appropriate total. Check with us first to ensure the cars are OK to send though.

Price includes the cost of the chip and return standard delivery (overseas/special delivery options available at checkout) and testing of the chip installation including operation of lanechanger before despatch.

PLEASE POST OR DELIVER CARS TO: CHEDDAR SLOT CAR, BAY ROSE HOUSE, CHEDDAR, SOMERSET BS27 3QN. Please wrap cars in bubble wrap but there is no need to use excessive sellotape as this can make them hard to unpack.

Scalextric Chip fitting for your old/existing cars

Terms of chipping:

Please note that this service does not create factory-standard chipped cars and we cannot guarantee that our chip installation will survive your driving. But we do take care not to leave grubby fingerprints all over the bodywork and display case, and we do ensure that all the chip wires are tucked away as much as possible. 99% of all cars chipped have no issues but you should be prepared to open up the car and re-seat the chip or wiring if they become dislodged and interfere with moving parts such as gears, guide blade, or 4WD belts, and/or re-solder a connection if the digital features of the car stop working after an accident.

Please note that some cars may have a lot of wires inside that are routed through specific areas of the interior to try to avoid interference with moving parts. Electrical tape is also used to insulate soldered joints from touching each other or the chip. If you are opening up a car it's important to think of the routing and insulation of wires as you put the car back together.

You may also find that body parts on some pre-digital era cars do not fit together as snugly with the chip installed. We do not routinely shorten the wires supplied with digital chips unless it's absolutely essential, as some customers like to have the option to take the chips out and move them into other cars. However if you wish to make some adjustments to wiring length and placement you are welcome to do so if you think you can improve the installation that way, but by custom-cutting wire lengths to exactly fit one model you may preclude future use of that chip in another car.

Please note we cannot accept cars we have chipped for you, back for return or repair as we do not have the time or facilities to provide a full slot car service centre. But using our maintenance guides on this site you should be able to fix most problems yourself. Also please be aware that some older cars may not perform as well as digital cars as they did on analogue, this can be due to a combination of factors such as the chassis, magnet, tyres, the power delivery, change of weight distribution, etc. etc. And we don't have the time or necessary supplies to tune and improve old non-magnet, button-magnet or brown-magnet cars to perform to today's standards - if this is important to you, you may wish to first contact Scalextric Car Restorations. Generally customers seem to prefer to leave them in their original configuration to enjoy the more tail-out driving they offer, but on digital.

*Also note that SCX brand cars often suffer lighting failures when run on Scalextric track either initially or after some running (see this forum discussion) - there is a fix for this detailed on Slot Forum but it's beyond what can be done here. If lights are important to you, don't send an SCX saloon car with lights for chipping.

If sending us a car from your collection, this is at your own risk, and the service is only for chipping, not for making any other repairs that may be necessary, although it may be possible to quote you for other replacement parts.

Should you require the car returned to analogue, you would do this yourself by taking the chip out of the wiring and reconnecting the wires direct from motor to guide - keep the chip safe for you to install in another car.
