About Us Cheddar Scalextric Slot Car Centre was the first established shop and circuit focused specifically on Digital slot car racing, and particularly on the Scalextric brand. Scalextric is the best known manufacturer of slot car products in the UK and its digital product is backwards-compatible with previous analogue versions of Scalextric racing, as well as with most other brands of slot car including SCX, Ninco and Carrera - even though these companies have developed their own separate, largely incompatible digital systems.
So if you have a question about Scalextric Sport Digital racing then you are in the right place, there isn't much we don't have first hand experience of in this field.

Making A Purchase Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our store, and add any items that you wish to buy into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on 'Checkout' and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to complete the order.
We accept credit card payment. If you are shopping from overseas, place your order and your credit card company will convert the transaction to your own currency.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro/Switch and Paypal (2% surcharge for Paypal though). We do not charge your card until items are ready to ship (Paypal excepted). You may send your credit card information via phone, fax, snail mail or over the Internet. Due to new rules on cheque clearance we can no longer accept cheques as payment.
When confirmation of order is received, this is to indicate that we have received your order. It does not indicate that a contract exists between us. We will indicate acceptance of your order, and hence a contract between us, when we send you the item and/or receipt or invoice. We have included this term to protect us in the case that a mistake has been made in pricing, we have inadvertently under-priced goods, or we are no longer able to supply a particular product for some reason. In the case of a change of price, we will always contact you first to ensure that the price is acceptable. |
Shipping And Handling All prices on this site include VAT and UK postage and packing. Overseas customers will be advised of shipping costs separately.
Generally, parcels up to 1.5kg in weight will go via Royal Mail First Class Post so you should get them the next working day after they are despatched although please note the official line is anything up to 15 days. Beyond about 2 to 2.5kg we use a courier service, where next day delivery is normally achievable. In either case it's best to allow 2-3 days to be on the safe side. Sometimes orders will ship in separate parcels if it's more cost-effective to do so.
Guaranteed next weekday delivery is possible for an additional charge for any weight of parcel, as long as you order before noon, email us for details. If you really need a Saturday delivery, that can also be arranged but the courier companies ask crazy money for that so be warned.
Due to the wide range of parcel sizes and overseas destinations possible, this site is set up primarily to deal with UK orders. If you are ordering from overseas we will contact you separately and advise postage costs to get your agreement, before debiting your card. See overseas shipping page for more information.
To cut down on waste and keep packaging costs down, where possible, we will recycle old packaging from items sent to us, and pack your cartons with the manufacturers' own shredded paper and padding materials.

| Delivery Schedule We will despatch your order by the next working day if the items are in stock - and in most cases if you order small items (under 1kg) before noon they will go out First Class the same day. Complicated parcels might take an extra day to put together. You should receive most items within 3 days. If an item was out of stock and we have had to order it specially, please allow 14 days - we will advise you if it will be longer. International order delivery times vary greatly dependent on parcel size, weight and destination - we will give you an estimate on an order-by-order basis. |
Back Orders If your item is not in stock, we will back order for you. Generally, if it's on the web site, it's expected to be available within a matter of a couple of weeks at most. If we are aware that something is out of stock at the factory we will remove it from the web site.
Sometimes off-line sales catch us out and the web site obviously does not update itself automatically in such cases, so occasionally we may need to back order something that was shown as in stock. This happens more often in the run up to and just after Christmas. You will always be emailed with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait.
Orders paid for by Paypal are always paid in full in advance. Also, if you have placed a large order for several items, some of which are in stock, and some of which are expected to arrive within a couple of weeks, we will also take full payment when the first items are shipped. Two reasons for this; wherever possible we aim to get items out to you quickly and send out subsequent items as they arrive from the factory, rather than hold them here to send in one go. For simplicity it's easier to take one payment, rather than keep raising sub-orders and adding extra lines to your credit card statement. The other reason is that a large number of people leave us credit card details that are close to expiry date, so taking full payment on first despatch ensures that the later items can still be sent.
In the unlikely event of an ordered and paid-for item not being available, you would of course receive a full refund at the earliest opporutnity. |
| Tax Charges For orders made from the UK or the European Union, 17.5% VAT is included. If you are buying for business purposes, through a VAT-registered company in the EU, VAT can be deducted and you can assess the VAT yourself, if you provide a valid VAT registration number. We are unable to discount the VAT for customers in the UK or rest of the world (including the Channel Islands) as under the VAT scheme we are on, we would still have to pay the VAT we didn't collect from you, to the UK government. |
| Credit Card Security When the order is placed at our website, credit card numbers are encrypted using 128 bit encryption. They are only decrypted after they reach our computer. They are not held in clear text on any web site. |

Returns Policy Troubleshooting and returns
If you experience any fundamendal problems getting your cars or track to work, use the troubleshooting guide we provide on our site first. Probably 95% of all problems are solvable in this guide. If still no joy, please get in touch with us for advice. If it turns out that an item or component was faulty on delivery to you, we will arrange for it to be replaced, or alternatively repaired (if possible), or as a last resort, a refund provided. We cannot however accept returns where the product has been used and/or damaged in your possession - particularly with cars, which by their very nature can be easily damaged through use. Participation in the slot car hobby requires that you maintain and repair your cars as required. Just as if you were racing a car in a real life racing competition.
Beyond this, if you have a performance issue, e.g. you need more speed or better handling - congratulations - you have been bitten by the "slot car bug"! This is the kind of thing that slot car hobbyists spend many a waking hour thinking about. There is a wealth of information available on the internet about how you can improve any slot car, whether by sanding the tyres, lubrication, better tyres, better braids, more powerful motors, using a different layout, cleaning the track regularly, etc. etc. There is also a ready demand for second hand slot cars and track so as you get more involved in the hobby and build up your collection, you should be able to sell on your less-preferred cars, track and accessories, quite easily.
Unwanted items or cancelled pre-orders
If you receive an item and decide you do not want it, we can refund the cost of the item less an allowance for any Paypal fees and for the cost of shipping it to you in the first place, but only if you contact us within 7 days of receipt. Beyond this time you may wish to consider selling it on via an auction web site such as Ebay. If you cancel a pre-paid pre-order we will refund the price of the item(s) but not any additional bank, credit card, payment processing or postage charges you may have incurred (including Paypal surcharge). When cancelling an order please telephone or send an email to advise us, and ensure you receive a confirmation from us that the order is cancelled - if for any reason the cancellation request does not get to us your order may still be shipped out and charged.
