Spare parts for Scalextric cars
Eventually this will happen to you...! Like the real thing, slot cars are not indestructible. But parts are usually still available for cars made over the past few years or so; undertrays, axle assemblies, light boards, tyres, motors and so on. Prices vary but you can use the prices shown here as a rough guide. We don't keep them in stock but order them in when needed.

So if you need a part, drop us an email with the car's C number (or the W part number if you know it), we will check the and order it in for you. Bodyshells are not available as spare parts, if you need a new car body, you will need to return the whole car to Hornby Customer Care for repair. [Image courtesy XPB]

Minimum order
Please note when ordering only small parts from this page there is a £4 minimum order value. It's not economical for us to pay card transaction fees and postage costs for items costing only a quid or two. If you order some braids that will help make up the total.

Power booster cables (power taps) Ref: C8248
If you are experiencing power supply problems, particularly on a long circuit, you will find these useful to help spread the current evenly around the track. The cables clip to the underside of the track on straights. Simply connect the same rail at two approximately equidistant points around the circuit, to provide the current with an alternative direct route to the far side of the layout. Braid pack Ref: C8075
Pack of 6 silver braids for any Scalextric car including Micro Scalextric (you might want to trim the length a bit for Micro). To slide off a 1/32 scale guide plate, push down and forwards, then lift the plate around and off the blade. Then simply remove the worn braids, and wrap these new ones around plate in their place and replace the plate. For Micro, lever off the fixing plate under the car, remove the old braids, and trail half of each new braid backwards under the car and the other half goes behind the plate, touching the motor contacts - then just click the plate back on again.

Before ordering check if you still have some spare braids fixed to the underside of the display case your car came in.

Contact plates for guides Ref: CONTACTS
A pair of the metal L-shaped "feet" for "Ferrite Man" (see image on left) that slot into the round guide blade assemblies. These are routinely provided as part of the digital chip, but occasionally you may break your existing ones at the "ankle" making it difficult to re-solder the wire to them - slot a pair of new ones in instead. Just the feet, no wires, if you require the whole wire, feet and guide assembly see W1564.

If your 4WD car's band has snapped or stretched try this replacement part. May be suitable for a number of 4WD cars but performance can't be guaranteed from car to car. If you can provide a car model reference number we can check if this part is on the spares list for that car.

Track cleaning
Can't stress enough the need to keep your digital track clean. A dirty track slows your cars down and could be responsible for erroneous digital signals being sent to cars. It might *look* clean to you, but you would be surprised the amount of muck that builds up after only a short time. Best to give your rails a good wipe down before a serious racing session, perhaps using a proprietary product such as Pleby's - you can also use it to clean car braids. Also check out the Maplin link below for products such as silver grease to help keep good connectivity at track joints, and soldering equipment for car chips.

"Sport +" Performance Parts
Although the 20K to 30K motors are not currently compatible with Sport Digital as they are a bit too powerful for the chips and powerbases, we do get some enquiries about these and also the other range of performance tyres, axles, and bearings in the Sport Plus range C8401 to C8429 from analogue users. If you would like us to get some of these for you, they are usually readily available so please get in touch using the contact form and let us know what you are looking for. As a rough guide, motors and gears are about £10, bearings £7, and tyres about £4 a set.

Tyres for older cars
If you are restoring an old slot car, you can be almost certain that - unless it has been stored in airtight conditions - it will need new tyres. They should not feel in any way hard or brittle, but should be soft and pliable. If you try racing a car with ancient tyres you will be very disappointed in its performance, particularly with a non-magnet car where the tyres are the only means of traction. Fortunately, you can get reproduction tyres for all old cars, made by Ortmann of Germany. They are available in the UK at RS Slot Racing.
