Shipping: standard, next day, and overseas

Slotcarcentre >
ShippingShipping
All but the smallest packages travel completely separately from the Royal Mail, are insured and tracked through home delivery services of the type used by Amazon. The shipping cost is included in the price displayed on site for UK customers. Packages are posted or collected by couriers on Monday afternoons through to Saturdays, but not Bank Holidays. Small items that can go by Royal Mail are usually put directly into the postal system by us at the local depot and thus avoid any delays in the Post Office network; they go First Class and 95% will arrive next day (including Saturdays) without any special treatment.

Overseas customers' shipping costs are calculated depending on total weight, and added on at the checkout. Tip: Above 2kg shipping costs are a step more expensive so if you have a parcel that is around 2kg in weight try removing a non-critical item and ordering it separately in a later order.

If you need a small packet delivered urgently, you can pay extra at the checkout for guaranteed next working day delivery, Monday to Friday, if ordered before noon. After about 2pm all despatches for the day have gone out. If you want to make sure we received the order and/or that we can get it out that day please telephone to check and make sure we aren't being delayed in processing it.

Larger parcels (e.g. sets) travel by courier, and we use a number of different ones depending on shipment sizes - UPS, UK Mail, DHL, and TNT are the most common ones, and most deliver within a couple of days. However if you order after lunchtime on a Friday nothing is likely to move via courier until Monday. Next day delivery for larger orders is also available by selecting this at the checkout, although these are not "guaranteed" (e.g. by 9am or 1pm delivery) - such services are available but incur additional charges, please enquire about these separately by phone, email, or in the "other information" box when placing your order.
Overseas shipping costsOverseas shipping costs
Our prices already include UK shipping, including BFPO addresses for small packages. Channel Islands mail requires additional processing for customs and thus has a separate charging band. If you are ordering from overseas, here is what to do. Firstly, check the international stockists list - especially if you are in the USA, Asia or Australia. It could save you a lot of money and you could get the item much quicker if you can find it at a local stockist in your part of the world. If you can't source it nearer then we are happy to ship it out to you.

Our policy is to charge (as near as possible, in price bands) only the difference between the cost of shipping to you, and the cost of shipping within the UK.

Example additional regular shipping prices
For small parts up to 250g
To Europe - £1.00 Rest of the World - £3.00
To send one car up to 500g:
To Europe - £2.50 Rest of the World - £5.00
For two cars of 500g each:
To Europe - £4.00 Rest of the World - £9.00
For track and other items up to 2kg total
To Europe - £6.00 Rest of the World - £18.00

Some of our competitors might charge you a lot more.

Customers in Spain please make sure you have read this page before ordering. (Los clientes en España, por favor lea esta página antes de ordenar.)

Overseas Airsure

For overseas mail up to 2kg choose the Airsure option for online tracking and delivery confirmation. This is a Royal Mail service which costs approximately £5 extra. Without this option, there is no tracking number provided for small overseas parcels.
Value added tax and international salesValue added tax and international sales
The prices shown on this site include UK VAT and do not apply to customers outside of the EU. Unlike some other slot car online retailers, our accountants advise that we can't discount VAT on these prices (e.g. for foreign customers or Channel Islanders) so do not check the VAT exemption box except if you are a non-UK EU business purchasing items for business use and are providing a VAT number.

This is because we do not operate the full UK VAT scheme like the major retailers do, and under the simpler small business scheme we use, we must still pay a percentage of the tax we collect from you (whether we actually collected it or not) to the UK government, which for many products would wipe out most if not all of our profit - in other words, we would genuinely be paying your VAT discount, not the tax man. And then still have all the extra work and cost involved with export paperwork. We compensate for this "taxing issue" by more heavily subsidising postage to countries outside the EU, so you are still getting some discount.

If you are outside the EU, seeking VAT zero-rated supply and a receipt that does not show VAT, cannot locate the items nearer to you (see international stockists link above), and are thus wishing to buy from us, do not buy directly from these pages. Instead please contact us with your requirements, using the contact link above, and we will send out an international invoice which shows our prices inclusive of 0% VAT, and which you can then pay by credit card online or over the phone. Or we can set you up with an international account on this web site which will display the pages with our international pricing on them. If you are outside the EU and buy direct from the web site, your receipt will incorrectly show a VAT element.

If you are unable or unwilling to do this, your best bet may be to try a larger retailer (such as Amazon.com) who are able to offer the full international VAT discounting scheme.
Missing a delivery?Missing a delivery?
We sometimes have problems with slow deliveries in the run up to Christmas, but at any time of year a parcel delivery can go wrong. We would say that over 99% of all our parcels arrive at UK destinations within 3-5 working days, and abroad within 6 working days. If a longer time than that has passed since your parcel was despatched, then there is usually a problem of some sort.

What goes wrong
The most common reason for a missing parcel is that nobody was there to receive it. Delivery staff are supposed to leave a note, but sometimes they forget and often any slips they do leave can be mislaid or thrown away with junk mail. Sometimes they can't find your address, if it's a new house or especially if it's a temporary delivery person doing the rounds. So it sits at the depot awaiting further instructions, but you don't know it's there. At any time of year parcels can get misrouted to a wrong delivery depot and have to make a round-about trip to get to you. Sometimes customers give us the wrong address to send the parcel to, so it is discovered in the possession of a neighbour.

And sometimes there is local or national postal disruption due to industrial action, weather conditions, etc. Often we find winter parcels to Scotland and Scandinavia can be delayed by a couple of weeks for example. Please consider whether these may be a factor in the delay before worrying too much.

What to do
First, check with your neighbours, in your porch, outhouses, by dustbins, in side alleyways etc. - and also ask family members if they took in a parcel, put it somewhere safe and forgot to tell you (they might not be aware of your eagerly anticipated parcel, it does happen!). And remember toddlers and dogs wandering past the doormat can do strange things with newly-arrived post!
SocksDo check in case a parcel delivery attempt notice got put in the bin accidentally. Also check at your local sorting office, the parcel could well be waiting there for you. If still no joy, give us a call on 01934 743250 and we will investigate for you from the records we have at this end. However please note that unless you asked for Special Delivery or your package was sent by courier, we cannot chase up the Royal Mail until 15 working days have elapsed (their rules not ours).

In a rare worst case scenario a complaint may have to be lodged with Socks our honorary head of parcel despatch (pictured opposite) - he'll accept the blame for most things - or alternatively a claim made for compensation from the delivery service. If it's a Royal Mail item the claims process is detailed here.
Claims
If a parcel we have sent does indeed turn out to be lost in the post, there are a couple of options depending on how urgently you need the item:
a) buy the item again (i.e. place a new order - perhaps with next day option) and then either manage the claims process yourself to recover the cost of buying the "lost" item, or
b) wait for the 15 day (or more for overseas mail) claim delay period to finish, then we will send out replacements to you at no charge, and then we claim the costs for the lost item back from the postal service at our end.

There may be a limit on compensation payable by the postal service concerned, depending on the class of mail used.
