Tuning up your Scalextric cars How can I make my Scalextric car go faster? This is a question we are often asked, and so by popular request in this section you will find a number of components that are designed to improve the performance of your cars. Tuning is something you need to do yourself as it depends on your personal driving preferences and the nature of your track, so we just can't "set a car up" and post it to you. Some other important points! Firstly, the performance motors C8421 to C8426 are not compatible with digital racing - they are too powerful for the digital chip.

Secondly, note that if you plan to take a car along to a racing club, the use of components like silicon tyres, performance gears and bearings may be controlled by club rules, check with the organisers to avoid failing scrutineering! Also if you have a fleet of cars you use for home racing, make sure you give them all fair and equal treatment, to avoid someone getting stuck with a poor handling car while everyone else races off into the distance. Tyres for older cars If you are restoring an old slot car, you can be almost certain that - unless it has been stored in airtight conditions - it will need new tyres. They should not feel in any way hard or brittle, but should be soft and pliable. If you try racing a car with crusty tyres you will be very disappointed in its performance, particularly with a non-magnet car where the tyres are the only means of traction - the back end will be all over the shop. Fortunately, you can get reproduction tyres for old cars, made by Ortmann of Germany. They are available in the UK at RS Slot Racing.
