Chipping analogue cars for Scalextric digital
Most of the cars in the analogue sections will happily take a digital chip, to enable them to run on both digital and analogue tracks. You can buy the chips on our chips and software page or increasingly we find people taking advantage of our chipping service below, to save themselves the bother.

The conversion task involves placing the chip in series between the motor and the guide blade, and requires some fairly straightforward soldering. You also need to make a small hole in the undertray, for the LED to poke out of, but on most post-2004 cars this hole is already provided. For more information on chipping click here. If you are considering chipping a car yourself, also check out the Car Chipping Database on Slot Forum, for detailed instructions and photos for many cars. Although some generic instructions are provided with each chip, there is a huge variety of different chassis configurations and some cars will chip better with a specific (F1 or saloon) chip - the database will help you here. Some very small cars may need interior bodywork modifications.

All modern cars have magnets in the undertray, to help them stick to the track better than the cars of the 60s and 70s (for purists these can be removed or in most cases have their positions changed, to give different handling characteristics).

Please note terms and conditions...
Fitting chips to new cars
We can fit an SSD chip for you to virtually any of the cars in the current Scalextric analogue range. Simply select the car you would like chipped, and add it to your basket, along with a "pre-order" for this chip fitting service item. The chip fitting service includes the cost of the chip. You do not need to specify saloon or single-seater chip, we will use the most appropriate one. A new car will be obtained for you, the chip installed and then briefly tested on our own track to ensure car ID and lane changing functions correctly, before returning it to its presentation box and sending on to you. If the car you would like chipped is not listed here but to your knowledge still currently available, drop us an email to enquire first. Allow an extra 7 days for delivery.

Fitting chips to your existing cars
If you have a working analogue car you would like chipped, you can buy this item and send us an email detailing the car you are sending us to be chipped. Again no need to say which chip, the correct one for your car will be used. The car you send has to be a "regular" 1/32 scale Scalextric brand *racing* car from about the 1970s onwards - no Batmobiles, Police Cars, Challengers, Bash and Crash, or Historic F1s like Vanwalls, etc.; no tiny vehicles like Caterhams, karts, Moto GP bikes etc.; no open-underside cars (they must have an underpan to fix the chip to); and no SCX, Fly, Carrera, Ninco etc. cars. Scalextric 4WD models or cars with motors in the middle or at the front of the car are usually not a problem, but we will let you know if it's OK to send. Anything too complex that may involve bodywork modifications or non-Hornby electrics on your car, we can't take the risk, sorry. Please ensure you send your car securely wrapped, recorded delivery might be preferable - and if you have its original display case that would be good - and again allow about 7 days for completion and return. Pre-order using button below.

If for any reason your car cannot be chipped we will let you know before work commences and your money will be refunded. Before ordering, please check availability of chips to make sure we have stock of the chip that will be required for your car. Also we can't chip a car using a chip that you've already "had a go" with unsuccessfully, as we have no means of testing the chip is good without doing most of the chipping work anyway. It's best that we use a pristine one from the packet.

As an alternative to ordering via this on-line service, you can simply send us your car(s) for chipping together with a UK postal order payable to Cheddar Slot Car for the appropriate total. Check with us first to ensure the cars are OK to send though.

PLEASE SEND CARS TO: CHEDDAR SLOT CAR, BAY ROSE HOUSE, CHEDDAR, SOMERSET BS27 3QN.

£17.50 (€22.10) inc VAT + delivery*

People who bought this item also bought:
1. Dodge Viper "Naykid" (Ref: C2907)
2. Renault F1 2008 - Piquet (Ref: C2864)
3. Renault F1 2008 - Alonso (Ref: C2863)

SSD and uprated motors
SSD chips are not compatible with motors above 20K RPM. We have successfully chipped a Lewis Hamilton Scalextric Club McLaren F1 car with a 20K motor in it, but other racers report blown chips with motors more powerful than this.
More cars!
The range of analogue cars is huge, and there are many more listed in the catalogue. If you require something that you know is available or due out soon, but is not listed here please email us, most cars are available to order and we will get some in stock if we can.

Also see the digital cars page for tips on going digital on a restricted budget!
Fastest Scalextric Cars
Want some help deciding which are the fastest cars? Have a look at the results of the 2008 Scalextric Land Speed Record which shows some of the speeds achieved with Scalextric cars (albeit modified with performance motors and parts).
Second hand Scalextric cars
If you have got some second hand analogue Scalextric cars you would like to get rid of, by all means contact us with details before you take them to the skip. We can recycle them! We often receive packages of old Scalextric cars, complete and parts, in the post. With some careful restoration, many old cars could have a glorious life still ahead of them with the kids (and grown-ups) of today, on the world's digital circuits! Find out more here.
